This year I decided to follow along with Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of Christmas. Lately I have been trying to "Use What I Have". So that means I need to "fake" out a few items used on these tags.
You can click on any image and enlarge the photo.
First I cut this tag shape from Celebrations Cricut Cartridge at 6.28 inches. Next I swiped the front of my Cuttlebug Folder with VersaMark embossing ink. I then placed my Tag into the machine and embossed. Quickly I removed the tag and sprinkled white embossing powder on the surface. I used my finger to tremove the excess off the raised snowflakes. I then heated the powder. I then sanded the tag a bit and inked the flakes with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and Iced Spruce Distress Ink.
Next I cut "Noel" from Blackletter Cricut Cartridge. I used my Gypsy to weld the letters together. I used Joys of the Season for the scrolling. I welded that to my "Noel". The image is cut from Grungepaper. Remembr to use multicut on Grungepaper with a Cricut. I cut twice.
Then I prepared the banner. I cut this banner from Blackletter at 1.14 inches. I then stamped with a music stamp from my stash with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. I distressed the paper a bit and folded the ends into a more dimensional banner.
Next I prepared my greenery. So many different cartridges could be used. I used Staright From the Nest for the branches and the holly is from Christmas Noel. I then inked each branch with Gathered Twigs. Then using Snow Cap Paint Dauber, I dabbed the dges a bit to look snow tipped.
I assembled by placing Noel first. Then the banner. Then the greenery.
I then made my pinecone. Tim Holtz uses a die to make his, but I do not have a machine that will cut that die. So I have to get creative and make my own.

I started with 2 pear shapes from Gypsy Font.
They are sized at .75 and 1 inch. I cut them in a 3 shades of brown cardstock.
Next I shaped each pear by folding the sides inward on the tip (which is actually the stem of the pear shape). Then I used tweezers and rolled the rounded edges backwards on both sides. I did this for about 10-15 small and 7-10 large.
Then I took a toothpick and placed a small amount of hot glue on the tip. I then rolled a tube with a small pear shape.
Next I started gluing small pear shapes to each other building the shape outward. You only want to use a small amount of hot glue on the base of each shape.
The rows I built had 1, 3, 5,of small. Each row, I moved down the toothpick just a bit but still overlapping the previous layer.
Then I used the larger shapes and began placing them downward. These I did not do so much in rows. I kept overlapping and moving downward. I used about 7 large.
Once I had my pinecone to its size I wanted, I cut the toothpick with scissors, leaving just the pinecone. I shaped the edges just bit and slightly flattened one side to lay against the tag.

I then adhered the pinecone to the tag. I then used Snow Cap Paint d.Dauber again and Picket Fence Stickles to decorate the pinecone. I added a few holly pieces and pearls at the base of the pinecone.
My final step was to tie some dyed crinkled ribbon to the top with some twine and a dangling pearl bauble. I also added a bit of tulle.
Here are some more photos.
Tomorrow I will have Day 2 of the Tags.
Remember I am giving away the Martha Stewart Birthday Cake Art Cartridge.

Love that pinecone!! Oh my! Thank you for sharing the file... such a time saver
I absolutely LOVE your tag, Elizabeth! Dare I say that I like it better than Tim's?! I love how you made the greenery - so much more interesting than just using one or two dies. Wish I had all the carts. You used, but maybe I can improvise using what I have. So tired of trying to keep up with new products...seems like most blogs are just pushing new products... Too expensive for me! Thanks again and LOVE YOUR TAG!
Your tag is just gorgeous! Love how you made the elements of the tag yourself. This way you can cut them as large or small as needed. Smaller for tags or cards or larger to use on wrapped gifts or home decor. TFS and for the inspiration!

Your tag is gorgeous. Thanks for the fabulous tutorial on how you did it all.
OMG...you just saved me so much money. I work entirely too much and I don't have nearly enough time to be as creative as you appear to be, BUT can't wait to pull the Gypsy out instead of buying all of these dies...gets COSTLY.
This is stunning! Really! I am going to try the pinecone...it's unbelievably life like. The glittery "Noel" is beautiful too...did it come that way, or did you add the glitter? I would love to know! Thanks for taking the time to share.
